1. Introduction

Planting trees are a very quick way to raise your farming level.  Doing tree runs takes awhile at first but you can get fast at it with practice. There are a few ways to collect seeds to plant. If you have a kingdom in Miscellania you will receive quite a number of nests each month many of them contain tree seeds. When you are cutting trees, including the Evil Tree distraction, you will sometimes receive a nest as a reward that often contains a tree seed. You can also buy tree seeds from the GE.
Farming tools can be purchased at several farming shops like this one in Catherby.

2. Quests required:

Jungle Potion- to have a farmer watch your Calquat Tree.
Mournings End 1- You need to at least start this quest to gain access to Llyeta for one of the fruit tree patches
Tree Gnome Village- To use the spirit trees for easier access to several tree patches.
Fairy Tale part one- You will receive a pair of magic secateurs. You don’t need them for planting trees but if you cut willow branches you will need them.
Fairy Tale Part three- You will receive a magic watering can that never needs to be refilled

3. Types of Trees:

Here are the farming levels you need for each tree, the payment the farmer requires to care for itand the growing time for the tree.

Oak Tree             level 15,      one basket of tomatoes for farmer, 2.3 hrs
Willow Tree         level 30,      one basket of apples for farmer, 5 apples in each basket, 3.6 hrs
Maple Tree          level 45,      one basket of oranges for farmer, 5 oranges in each basket, 5 hrs
Yew Tree             level 60,      10 cactus spines for farmer (can be noted), 6.3 hrs
Calquat Tree       level 72,       8 poison ivy berries for farmer, 20 hrs
Magic Tree          level 75,       25 coconuts for farmer (can be noted), 7.6 hrs
Spirit Tree           level 83,       1 ground Suqua tooth, 5 monkey nuts, 1 monkey bar for farmer, 2-3 days

You will be able to teleport with your spirit tree just like the one in the GE when it is fully grown.

*notes about payments*

Baskets can be purchased at the farming shops or you can make them in the farmhouse south of Fally on the loom. You need a crafting level of 36 to make baskets. Bring 6 Willow branches per basket and use them on the loom.
One cactus plant can be grown in Al Kharid and harvested for cactus spines about every 2 hours. You need level 55 farming to grow a cactus plant. They are expensive so save as many of these as you can.
Monkey nuts and monkey bars can be bought in Ape Atoll in the shop.
Suqua teeth are a drop from Suquas, grind them with a mortal and pestle.

Fruit trees are as follows:

the growing time for all fruit tree is the same, 15-20 hours
Apple Tree level 27, 9 raw sweetcorn for the farmer (can be noted)
Banana Tree level 33, 4 baskets of apples for the farmer, 5 in each basket
Orange Tree level 39, 3 baskets of strawberries for the farmer, 5 in each basket
Curry Tree level 42, 5 baskets of bananas for the farmer, 5 in each basket
Pineapple Tree level 51, 10 watermelons for the farmer (can be noted)
Papaya Tree level 57, 10 pineapples for the farmer (can be noted)
Palm Tree level 68, 15 papayas for the farmer (can be noted)

4. Getting Started:

Equip the tool leprechaun with all your farming tools including rake, seed dibber, trowel, spade, secateurs and watering cans. If you have completed fairy Tale 3 you will have a magic watering can that never needs to be refilled, otherwise fill your watering cans at any fountain, sink, etc…

There are 5 spots for regular trees and 6 spots for fruit trees. Keep in mind that fruit trees can take 15-20 hours to grow so you can do 2-3 (or even more with the lower leveled trees)  regular tree runs and 1 fruit tree run each day.
Make sure your compost bins are full of super compost, if not put 15 pineapples in the bin and close lid to rot. If you are working on the herblore habitat, you can use pungent vines to make super compost. These are great because the stack, so much easier than going back for more pineapples. It takes 40-90 minutes to complete the compost. Many other things can be used to make super compost as well. The leprechaun can hold 255 buckets of super compost so make lots of it and store it with him.

Supplies need other than your regular farming tools are: 500 coins for boat rides, 10 plant pots, tinderbox,  teleport runes, payments for the farmers and an elf teleport crystal.  Make use of lodestones for easy teleports.

5. Locations:

Also see maps under the My Route section.
Regular tree plots are located in Gnome Stronghold, Varrock, Lumby, Fally, and Taverly.
Fruit tree patches are located in Brimhaven, just outside the Gnome Maze, Gnome Stronghold, Catherby, Llyeta and at the Herlore Habitat.
Two special plants are included in this guide, Calquat and Spirit trees. The Calquat patch is located in Karamja near Tai Bwo Wannai and you have a choice of planting your spirit tree in three different locations but you can only plant one at a time. These locations are Brimhaven, Etceteria and Port Sarim. I have found the Brimhaven spot to be the most helpful.

6. Farming Process:

Treat the tree patch with super compost. Fill plant pots with soil from your tree plot by using the plant pot on the plot. You must have a gardening trowel and an empty plant pot in your inventory to do this. Plant tree seeds in the plant pot and water it. In a few minutes you will have a sapling in the pot.  Plant sapling in the plot, you don’t need to water it. Pay the farmer to care for the sapling.
After the tree is fully grown check it for health to get your farming exp. You will be able to cut it for logs just like other trees. But if you are trying to level farming you will be cutting it down each day and planting a new one. After you cut down the tree and are left with a stump, use your spade on the stump to remove it. If you don’t do this quickly the tree will regenerate and you will need to cut it down again. You can either bank the logs or burn them to save time.  Once you dig up the stump you will have a tree root in your inventory. The roots from yew and magic trees are very valuable so keep these.  The other roots can be used in super compost. Have your new sapling ready, treat patch with super compost, fill plant pots with soil if needed and plant sapling right away.
Willow trees have an extra step involved. After a willow tree is fully grown it can be pruned with secateurs for its branches which are used in summoning pouches for Giant Ents.

7.  My Route:

You may find another route works better for you.
Start at the tree patch in Varrock beside the castle.

Bank at the GE and use the spirit tree to teleport to the Tree Gnome Village.

After planting your tree go back to the spirit tree and teleport to Gnome Stronghold. There is a fruit tree patch here as well as a tree patch and a bank to get supplies.

If you have planted a spirit tree in Brimhaven use the spirit tree in Gnome Stronghold to teleport to Brimhaven. If not, Teleport to Ardy and take a boat which costs 30 gps.

South of Brimhaven near Tai Bwo Wannai Village there is a patch for a Calquat Tree

Teleport to Camelot and run south to Catherby. Bank for more supplies. Run east to the fruit tree patch.

Bank in Catherby and teleport to Llyeta for another fruit tree patch.

Bank at Llyeta and teleport to Lumbridge.

Teleport to Fally and use the bank. Run east to the park for a tree patch.

Run from Fally to Taverly for another tree patch. You can also use a castle wars tele and take a balloon to Taverly or if you have a house in Taverly use the house portal.

After visiting all these locations you will have planted 5 regular trees, 6 fruit trees and possibly a Calquat and a Spirit Tree as well. In about 6 hours you can do another tree run with just the regular trees. Teleport to the GE and get your supplies ready for tomorrow's tree run.
